Enrique Metinides- In Place of Coincidence

"EA Ford Mustang fell into the San Cristóbal Canal in Ecatepec, Mexico State on the Mexico-Pachuca highway. The three persons in the car died when they left the car. They were carried away by the current. 1989."

"The Regis Hotel, with its three cabarets, a pharmacy and a café were destroyed by the 19 September 1985 earthquake. Hundreds of dead and wounded, 20 September 1985."

"Attack on security vehicle by armed commando in Av. Universidad. The attackers shot three policemen. While they were escaping with the money, several police cars turned up, forcing them to take refuge in Comercial Mexicana, where another violent shoot-out ensued. The assailants eventually got away with the money. September 1988."

"A streetcar was derailed in Calzada de Guadalupe, three blocks from the Basilica. The streetcar crashed into a lamp-post, injuring 15. The 1980s."

I came across these photographs on the Zone Zero website   and I was immediately overwhelmed by so many emotions. They are shocking, sad , amazing, unbelievable, I just cant believe Enrique , or anyone for that matter could be in these situations to photograph them at such pivotal moments! They remind me of Weegee's photographs but taken in Mexico City during the 80's . http://www.zonezero.com

Occupy Wall Street- Ongoing Protest

I am so glad that this is happening throughout the US, and even the world. Its been long coming. The general outrage over corporate tyranny was bound to explode. With the rising numbers of joblessness, economic collapse, perpetual war, destruction of constitutional rights, bank bailouts, destruction of the environment, etc, etc, etc. And the list could go on and on!! Chances are there is or will be protests in your part of the world. Join in.

Long Month, Great Show, Time to Relax

I can finally stop to catch my breath. The past month or so has been so full of work I haven't had time to do anything else but eat, sleep and work. Between working 60 plus hours between two jobs, recording a demo with my band 7 Day Bender, and most importantly preparing for Octobers 1st Friday and Art Walk show at the Isadore Gallery i've had little time to unwind. I felt like I was back in college again.  Everything came together perfectly! I had a great time at the 1st Friday event, saw old friends and talked with former professors, ended up eating Japanese and going out with some friends for drinks. Finally I can get back to a normal work routine and have something that resembles a weekend! As of right now its Monday afternoon and I am working on doing absolutely nothing for the rest of the day..... I love making plans like these.

October Show at the Isadore Gallery

Good news.... I have been working toward getting a gallery show together by the end of the summer and all my hard work is paying off! First Friday in October at the Isadore Gallery I will be showing 12 - 18x24 prints from my ongoing project Land of Enchantment. I am so extremely excited! It will be a really interesting show with my large scale prints of New Mexico next to my dad's abstract paintings and drawings. Nothing like keeping it eclectic right. Ill keep updating about news of the show the closer it gets to October, until then Ill be hard at work making prints and framing!

Finding Time For New Edits

Just returned from New Mexico a couple of weeks ago and I have well over a thousand photographs that I am looking forward to editing! The trip went by so fast ( as most vacations do)! It was a fairly normal visit with my parent, relaxing, eating sumptuous meals, and just soaking it all in. We spent a few days in Albuquerque & Santa Fe, we also took a day trip to see ancient indian ruins which were amazing. It was sad to say goodbye to my parents and leave beautiful New Mexico behind till next year. Hopefully I can start finding more time to work on the photographs so that they can bring me back to the land of enchantment again.
